Swimming And Diving Alumni Compete At U.S. Masters Nationals
Four Western Illinois swimming and diving alumni recently competed in the 2013 United States Masters Nationals in Indianapolis. Tom McCabe, Tom Wilczak, Jim Campana, and Jennifer Madgiak, with coach Bill Ryan, competed at the event last month.
“For me to see alumni getting together is great,” Western Illinois swimming and diving coach Greg Naumann said. “For alumni to compete, and not necessarily have swam together in college, wearing a Western swimming and diving shirt is cool, you don’t get to see that in many sports."
Ceola Clark's Professional Career Begins In Kosovo
Reaching the ultimate goal in life brings with it highs and lows. One must have the strength to handle any adversity that comes their way. Ceola Clark III continues to reach for the ultimate goal of playing in the NBA, after having to overcome adversity during his six-year career at Western Illinois University.
The next step in reaching that goal has been accomplished. Clark has signed on to play professional basketball with Sigal Prishtina in Kosovo.
“(Sigal Prishtina) gave me a guaranteed contract which is rare for a rookie overseas,” Clark said.
Football at Minnesota to Air on Big Ten Network
Western Illinois Football will appear on the Big Ten Network when the Leathernecks travel to Minnesota for the September 14th contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at TCF Bank Stadium.
The Leathernecks will play on the Big Ten Network for the first time since the 2010 season, a September 11th game at Purdue.
Summit League Announces Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll
The Summit League announced that 130 Fighting Leathernecks earned 2013 Winter-Spring Academic All-League recognition on Thursday (June 14) with 55 receiving Distinguished Scholar honors.
Student-athletes who earned a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the Spring 2013 semester made the list, and those posting a mark of 3.6 or higher were recognized as Distinguished Scholars.
Western Illinois saw an increase from 2012 in both Honor Roll recipients (107 to 130) and Distinguished Scholars (46 to 55).
Leatherneck Athletics Gives Back Through Community Service
Western Illinois student-athletes, coaches and administration continued to give back to Macomb and the surrounding communities during the 2012-13 school year. Leatherneck Athletics donated a total of 2,411.6 hours of time and raised a total of $7,584.60 for various groups.
The Leatherneck family has now contributed more than 2,000 hours of its time to the community every year since 2005-06.
A Historic Season for the Leathernecks
The Western Illinois athletics department concluded a historic year this past spring with many records being toppled, and teams accomplishing feats for the first time in their program’s history.
Heading into the Fighting Leathernecks annual countdown of the department’s top moments and accomplishments, this year known as #WIU13n13, the Western Illinois Athletics Department wanted to take some time to recognize the numerous records that were broken, and the rare, first-time accomplishments of some of our student-athletes and teams.
