The Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences, Office of Non-Credit Programs, and the Western Illinois University Foundation are pleased to announce the 37th Annual History Conference on March 24, 2012. This year’s theme, “Transformations,” will consider the gradual evolution of societies and the dramatic events that brought rapid change and immediate consequences.
Professor Daniel Walker Howe, professor emeritus of Oxford University and UCLA will act as this year’s keynote speaker. Professor Howe is a prolific author and historian whose work, What Hath God Wrought: The Transformation of America, 1815-1848, won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for History.
Faculty from the Department of History will present approximately a dozen topics during morning sessions in Stipes Hall. Presenters will discuss topics in their areas of expertise and sessions will be conducted concurrently in one hour time slots throughout the morning. An evening reception will be held in the Sandburg Lounge the night before the conference.
