Five Leathernecks Earn All-MVFC Honors
Western Illinois put five football student-athletes on the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference teams, as announced by the league office on Monday (Nov. 26).
Sophomore defensive back Martinez Davis (Madisonville, KY/North Hopkins/Air Force Prep) earned a spot on the Second Team, while fellow defensive players Jonathon Rollins (Miramar, FL/Everglades), Ryan Demming (Chicago/St. Rita) and J.J. Raffelson (Lake Zurich/Lake Zurich) along with junior offensive lineman Jimmy Holtschlag (Quincy/Notre Dame) were voted Honorable Mention.

J.J. Raffelson Named as Jerry Rice Award Finalist
Western Illinois redshirt-freshman linebacker J.J. Raffelson (Lake Zurich/Lake Zurich) was named a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award. The Sports Network announced the finalists on Monday (Nov. 19) for the nation's top freshman.
The Rice Award, in its second year, is named for legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice, who was a two-time first-team All-American in the FCS (then Division I-AA) at Mississippi Valley State. The award will be voted on by a national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries this week, and presented at the FCS Awards Banquet and Presentation on Dec. 17 in Philadelphia.

Samantha Fournier Tabbed All-Summit League Honorable Mention
The Summit League announced its annual volleyball awards Thursday evening (Nov. 15), and Western Illinois sophomore Samantha Fournier (Coal Valley, Ill./Moline) was named All-Summit League Honorable Mention.
Fournier finished her 2012-13 campaign with a team-best 402 kills (3.65 per set), and 294 digs (2.67 per set), which ranks second on the team. Her 402 kills is the fifth-most a Leatherneck has tallied in a single-season ever.

Comeback Complete: Leathernecks Repeat As Summit League Champs
The third-seeded Western Illinois men's soccer team defeated top-seeded Oakland 3-1 in The Summit League Championship at John MacKenzie Alumni Field on Sunday (Nov. 11) to win its second straight crown and sixth in program history.
Western Illinois earns a berth into the NCAA College Cup and will seek its first NCAA Tournament win. The Leathernecks' opponent will be determined during the Division I Men's Soccer Selection Show tomorrow (Nov. 12) at 4:30 p.m.

Bales, Bruinsma Named First Team All-Summit; Appel Second Team
The Summit League announced it's 2012 men's soccer all-conference selections on Thursday night (Nov. 8), and three Leathernecks were honored.
Junior Charlie Bales and senior Nathan Bruinsma were both named First Team All-Summit, while senior Aaron Appel was recognized with Second Team All-Summit honors.

Western Illinois women's soccer had three student-athletes named to the 2012 All-Summit League First Team at the tournament banquet on Thursday (November 1) evening.
