Campus Safety Notice: Off Campus Shooting Reported

UPDATE: A News/Media briefing will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at the Macomb City Hall Community Room.

The Macomb Police Department believes this is an isolated incident.

Western Illinois University Athletics events will be canceled for the weekend; all other University events will continue as scheduled.

The University Counseling Center will be open for walk-ins or appointments for support services from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today. Students can call (309) 298-2453.

The Office of Public Safety suggests everyone be vigilant about being aware of their surroundings. Individuals with information should call 9-1-1 immediately or contact Macomb Area Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS or (309) 836-2222.

MACOMB, IL -- The Macomb Police Department (MPD) is investigating the report of a shooting that occurred off campus in the early morning hours on Saturday, March 25.

A caller reported to MPD that a shooting occurred in the 500 Block of North Johnson Street. Seek shelter immediately. Individuals are encouraged to stay out of the area while the investigation continues.
