McGlone to Deliver 33rd Thompson Professor Lecture March 27 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – The University of Texas at Austin Communication Studies Professor Matthew S. McGlone will deliver the 33rd annual Wayne N. Thompson Professor Lecture at 3:45 p.m. Monday, March 27, in the Western Illinois University Union Capitol Room.
The lecture is titled, "Half-Truths and other Fractions: Cherry Picking in Communication" and can also be seen on Zoom at wiu.zoom.us/j/91307439569.
McGlone received his bachelor's degree in Psychology and Russian from Louisiana State University; his master's degree in Cognitive Psychology and his doctoral degree in Cognitive Psychology, both from Princeton University.
Prior to coming to The University of Texas at Austin, McGlone was associate director of research for the Center for Health Communication; was the graduate studies faculty representative for the Center for Identity; was a research professor and fellow for New York University's Steinhardt School of Education; was a visiting research professor for the University of Chicago; and was an associate and assistant professor at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.
McGlone's research interests include persuasion and social influence, health communication, language and thought, communication technology, stereotyping and prejudice, and deception and identity theft.
The Wayne N. Thompson Lecture is named to honor WIU alumnus Wayne Thompson, who was a former professor of speech communication. An endowment in his name helps sponsor a number of department programs to enhance learning and scholarship in the field of communication, including this lecture by a prominent scholar in the field.
